The manufacturing sector in Ethiopia is still in its formative stages and faces a range of challenges, both internal and external. Recognizing these difficulties, the Ethiopian Chamber of Sectoral Associations (ECSA) prioritizes advocacy and research as essential pillars to support the sector’s growth and development.

Advocacy Efforts

  1. Policy and Regulatory Advocacy
    • Advocate on behalf of manufacturers by engaging policymakers and government officials to address regulatory issues.
    • Present the manufacturing sector’s perspectives on legislation, trade policies, and industry standards.
    • Work collaboratively with the government to create a more favorable trade and industrial environment.
  2. Representation and Lobbying
    • Act as a voice for manufacturers, ranging from small-scale firms to large-scale industrial zones, ensuring their concerns are heard.
    • Lobby decision-makers to resolve issues affecting the manufacturing sector promptly.
  3. Legislation and Policy Impact
    • Address legislation and policy issues that could either positively or negatively impact the sector’s interests.
    • Ensure manufacturers’ perspectives are reflected in new laws and regulations to foster a sustainable industrial environment.

Identifying and Addressing Challenges

  1. Sector-wide Issue Identification
    • Continuously monitor and identify challenges affecting manufacturers of all scales, from small businesses to large-scale industrial operators.
  2. Priority Resolution
    • Prioritize high-impact issues and advocate for their speedy resolution, ensuring manufacturers can operate in an enabling environment.

Collaboration with ECCSA

  1. Public-Private Partnership Dialogue Forum (PPPDF)
    • Work closely with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA) under the Public-Private Partnership Dialogue Forum (PPPDF) framework.
    • Focus on:
      • Creating a conducive investment climate for private-sector growth.
      • Addressing business regulation constraints.
      • Fostering mutual trust and partnerships between businesses and the government.
  2. Joint Efforts for Economic Growth
    • Collaborate with ECCSA to promote industrialization and create a sustainable economic environment.
    • Establish effective solutions to enhance Ethiopia’s global competitiveness.

Research Initiatives
